Modular arithmetic is the study of remainders of numbers divided by another.

Suppose we divide a by b and get c as the remainder. Then a is congruent to c modulo b. Its notation looks like this: a == c (mod b).

For example, 14 == 1 (mod 5), because 14 divided by 5 is equal to 3 with a remainder of 1.
